Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 or the Cisco Unified IP Conference Station 7937G
Wednesday, February 6, 2008

If you have any experience with the latest versions of Polycom SoundPoint and SoundStation IP software you've probably noticed something interesting about the sip.cfg files. In the listing there are configuration variables for the Polycom IP 7000.
After a bit more research and digging I have found a post on the Trixbox site from a Polycom engineer that claims that the SoundStation IP 7000 is available today as an OEM Cisco phone- the Cisco Unified IP Conference Station 7937G... It has to be my guess that this was not "TOP SECRET"... Unfortunately the product is only available in Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP)
http://www.trixbox.org/forums/vendor-moderated-forums/polycom/polycom-ip-4000
For those not in the know...
SCCP is a Cisco proprietary protocol used between Cisco Call Manager and Cisco VOIP phones. It is also supported by some other vendors and available in Asterisk - I guess in theory this conference room phone could be used with Asterisk under any of the two SCCP channel driver variants that available within the open source PBX.
More on Skinny:
For VOIP solutions, the end station of a LAN or IP- based PBX must be simple to use, familiar and relatively cheap. SCCP defines a simple and easy to use architecture, while the H.323 recommendations are quite an expensive system. An H.323 proxy can be used to communicate with the Skinny Client using the SCCP. In such a case the telephone is a skinny client over IP, in the context of H.323. A proxy is used for the H.225 and H.245 signaling.
Polycom CFO Exercises Options
In a Form 4 filed with the SEC Monday, Michael R. Kourey reported exercising the options on Thursday for $23.50 apiece, then sold all 112,500 shares on the same day for $25.25 to $25.40 apiece.
The stock sale was conducted under a prearranged 10b5-1 trading plan which allows a company insider to set up a program in advance for such transactions and proceed with them even if he or she comes into possession of material non-public information.
Insiders file Form 4s with the SEC to report transactions in their companies' shares. Open market purchases and sales must be reported within two business days of the transaction.
More on the Aastra 312w
Tuesday, February 5, 2008
Don't bother reading this story about my experience with the Aastra 312w. It is pointless and only a test to see if it is possible for me to babble on about the SIP phone and not really ever say anything about the 312w. Just mention it over and over again.
For some one might think that simply Blogging about an item like the Aastra 312w will bring them to the top. (ME) for example- I carry the same page rank as other bloggers that are obviously waiting on me to scoop stories like the Aastra 312w -
Again, check out the Aastra 312w page; It is hot.
Digium Releases TDM410 - Modular Quad Port FXO/FXS with Echo Cancellation
Monday, February 4, 2008
Using Digium's Asterisk Open Source PBX software and standard PC Equipment, one can create a SOHO (Small Office Home Office) IP telephony environment that includes all the sophisticated features of a high-end business PBX telephone system.
The TDM410 takes the place of an expensive channel bank and brings the system price point to a low level. By using X100M and S110M modules with the TDM410, one can create a solution with support for a range of telephones. To scale this solution, simply add additional TDM410 cards populated with modules.
Like the Digium TDM400 the Digium TDM410 supports Single Port Analog FXO and FXS Modules.
