If you have been watching any of the recent developments at our beloved Digium then you know that it has been a CRAZY month... Within the last 30 days Digium has launched two new products, moved in to a brand spanking new 60,000sf complex, and acquired Foorloop Technologies. In the midst of this recent explosion they have also partnered with 3com under the guise of a commercial Asterisk license, for 3COM's new appliance directed at the "less than 30" end-user space. This last venture has me wondering... Why would anyone buy this?
With all the changes in the air at Digium I felt it would be prudent to write a story about all of the exciting things that have happened at Digium this year - Regurgitated of course...
01.03.2007- Digium Launches AsteriskNow.org and the AsteriskNOW Software Appliance... It was my first impression that this software was offered as an alternative to rival Fonality's Trixbox CE. Although not widely adopted (by our customers at least) the software appliance did help the world to realize that Digium was dedicated to making Asterisk easier for the non Linux minded and offered a glimpse of things to come.
01.24.2007 - Digium Launches the Asterisk Appliance Developers Kit... A.K.A. the AADK :) - This was big news to me personally - I nearly purchased one for $3500. It was originally announced that the first few owners would not only have it autographed by Mark Spencer but that they would be able to attend a special developers meeting hosted by none other than the man himself. On that same day Digium also announced their High Performance Echo Canceller, code name - HPEC, The Digium TDM800P, and the new and much sought after single port T1/E1/J1 with Echo cancellation, the Digium TE120P.
01.30.2007 -Former President, COO and Director of ADTRAN joins Digium as the company announces key executive appointments. Mark Spencer, founder and former President of Digium was named to the newly created position of Chairman and CTO. and was quoted as saying "It was an easy decision to bring Danny to Digium. His operational experience will allow me to focus more time on the customers and the technologies that will accelerate Digium and Asterisk in a way that will benefit both the community and Digium customers!"
02.27.2007 - In a bizarre twist the AsteriskNOW software appliance is name 'Best of Show' at INTERNET TELEPHONY® Conference & EXPO East 2007
03.05.2007 - The Open Source behemoth adds an "authorized sales channel" with three levels of revenue attainment... Authorized Reseller (up to $120K annually), Premier Authorized Reseller (up to $500K annually), and
Elite Authorized Reseller (over $500K annually)
03.21.2007 - Digium® Delivers Asterisk Appliance™ for Full-featured, Cost-effective Internet Telephony - This one left me asking, to whom they had delivered it. The product finally hit our shelves mid-September.
More to come...
